For some of us, it is so easy to get engagement on Instagram with little effort. But for a lot of us, it is not so simple. Especially when you are building a following from the ground up.
Or if you decide one day that your feed no longer fits in with a brand you are trying to create so you start another Instagram account in the hope of creating a genuine audience for your business. (this is so me!)
Instagram can be so hard, but it is a great platform to use when starting an online business. It is also really fun when you gain a good understanding of how to actually use it.
I don’t have a huge following because I just started working on my Instagram account again, but I have steadily gained about 25 genuine followers a week. I started again almost two months ago now.
I am really happy with the feed I am working on. I work on it every day. I can honestly say I look forward to getting on Instagram. I have been able to connect with very successful women in business that inspire my feed and my soul.
We inspire one another on there and share ideas with one another about business all the time. If you are looking for a community like that, join me on Instagram.

So enough about why I love Instagram so much and what I do on there. Let’s get to those tips I promised.

LIKE, COMMENT, & FOLLOW OTHERS
One of the first tips I have is to engage with others first. If you like a photo, like it & if their message really speaks to you, don’t be afraid to leave a comment. Not only will you create a conversation between your account and theirs, but one of their followers may be curious and click on your profile to follow you.
Commenting will get your name out there. It is also good for business to network with others. Businesses are built on the relationships you build between you and your audience. It’s just that simple.
Instastories is one of my favorite things to use on Instagram. I share motivational quotes on there all the time. It is great to use when you want to share something that doesn’t exactly fit the theme of your feed. Be sure to use all the features that Instastories gives you.
Tag your location, use hashtags, and use those trendy gifs on your stories. These features make your story not only more relatable, but accounts that don’t even follow you can find you easier creating more engagement for YOU.
Also, when I am pressed for time, but still want to keep up my consistency, I share posts from other accounts on my story and mention them so that my community can discover other accounts they may have an interest in. Any and all engagement is good.
Hashtags have been around for a while, but they are so useful. Some mistakes I have seen with hashtags is using unknown hashtags like #iamsosick or not using any hashtags in their photos.
I don’t know about you, but I want people to see my account. So I use as many hashtags as I can come up with when posting. Some of my favorite hashtags to use is #womensupportingwomen & #inspire because these hashtags are what my Instagram account are all about. I support other women trying to build a business and inspire others to follow their dreams no matter what.
DON’T BE AFRAID TO USE STOCK PHOTOS
If you find yourself with no time to take any photos, but still want to remain engaged with your audience, I highly recommend using stock photos. There are some really great websites that let you use their stock photos for free without the need to give credit to anyone. Here are the sites I have used in the past.
If you can invest a little into a stock photo membership, I highly recommend Styled Stock Society.
If you like feminine flatlay photos definitely check them out! Also, if you sign up to their email list, you will get 5 free photos a month to use on your Instagram, Pinterest, or anywhere you want really.
You can always make these photos unique and your own with a little editing so don’t worry too much about someone else using the same photos. If you make it your own, then stock photos are a really great tool when you are busy on other elements of your business.
SHARE A REAL STORY
My last tip is don’t forget about the caption. I still am still working on my captions, but when I look at the captions of the accounts that inspire mine what I found is that they tell a story. It doesn’t have to be the most personal story, but when you are trying to inspire others then it helps to be relatable. It helps when your audience knows the struggle you over came and how you over came it.
Share the struggles you faced when you first started blogging and how you made it through. Share the every day struggles you as a parent face every day and provide genuine advice for other parents too. There is always a story to share no matter your niche.
BONUS TIP: Post on Instagram as often as possible even if you just post a story.
